The building that houses HealthSouth Fort Worth was completed on Jan. 29, 1929 in Italian Renaissance architecture, and was originally known as W.I. Cook Memorial Hospital. In 1952, as the polio epidemic spread, the board of trustees voted to begin specializing in the needs of children, changing the name to Cook Children’s Hospital. In the early 1990s, HealthSouth Corporation bought the hospital, which now specializes in inpatient rehabilitation.
